On The Focus Struggle Bus? Welcome!
Hey everyone!
While I have had my head down launching a new online store to bring Disc Golf to those of diverse abilities, I have had to let other things slide in the meantime.
Now that the website is launched, getting back to what I was doing previously is hard. Not actually hard, but my attention span usually works like this.
On or Off.
Do Any Of You Feel The Same Way?
It takes me time to regroup and refocus when I get pulled off of tasks or allow myself to get distracted with trivial things. Add in daily chores, home and car maintenance and life things in general and I get the sudden urge to sell it all and just move to Costa Rica.
I know that I am not alone, and I many times go back to some of my own writing for tips and tricks to get realigned with the general direction I am going.
Honestly, sometimes that is the hardest first step. Just getting something down, in a direction, and go.
I am on the struggle bus over here. lol
One of the things that takes a little bit of time and allows me to recenter myself is looking at a calendar and planning my days in advance. And one of the concepts that get me moving in the right direction is “Batching”.
“Batching” Is Setting A Time To Complete Similar Activities Together.
Example, for today I decided I needed to just get back into the habit of writing and wanted to write 4 or 5 newsletters for the next couple of weeks. Instead of restarting the thought process every week of getting into a groove, I give myself the time and space to get into the groove and then take full advantage of it.
One time a month versus every single week.
Here are a few examples of how you might use batching in your own life.
Making a grocery list. Not going to the grocery store everyday, but planning ahead and trying to do it in one trip.
Not cooking everyday, but instead planning the week on a Sunday and make enough quantities to have dinner for two nights or dinner and the next days lunch ready.
Another example is not waking up each day and deciding what to do for a workout, but instead spending an hour a week planning and scheduling your workouts for the rest of the week.
For me, it is getting out and restarting the rhythm that eliminates the chaos and noise in my head.
Create A Plan And Stick To The Plan.
I am working and creating and sticking to this new plan as I type.
Give yourself some empathy, but hold yourself accountable. I have recently been doing one of these things but not the other.
Onwards and forwards.
Who struggles with preplanning and decision overload? I would guess most of us do.
Till next time!
