4 Health Myths That Don't Hold Up In Real Life
Myth 1: The Scale Is the Only Measure of Fitness
Why do so many of us only equate exercise with weight loss?
The fitness industry finds your pain points to create its quick fix products. The scale is just one factor of your over all health. Strength plays a massive part in your health span as you age.
Don't be fooled by the scale.
Myth 2: Five Minutes of Exercise a Day Is Enough
The amount of time you are willing to dedicate to fitness might not be enough.
If you are just starting, of course 5 minutes is better than 0 minutes. As adults, we need 30 to 60 minutes a day of dedicated training. Actually, science proves human beings need at least this much time.
As we age, we slowly come undone unless we have physical fitness on our side.
Myth 3: Cardio is The Most Important Type of Exercise
Cardio is only 1 component of fitness.
We start naturally losing muscle as early as our 30's. Yet, the amount of muscle we carry is directly proportional to the quality of life we have as we age. It is a combination of both cardio and resistance training that will allow us the age with grace.
Stop ignoring strength training.
Myth 4: Being Thin Equals Being Healthy
You're weight alone doesn't equal your overall health and/or fitness.
For example, a 100 lb female who doesn't train or eat well is not healthier than a 150lb female who exercises daily and does eat well. We all have different body types and those alone don't dictate your health. Your daily actions will dictate the quality of life you will have as you get older.
Go for strong and vibrant, not just for thin.
Think about if any of these apply to you or how you think about these topics. I have coached many individuals who were dead set in their thoughts surrounding some of these topics. (Myself included at different stages of my career)
