My Story.
Inside The Creation of Positively Jorge
I am so excited to be writing this post. For those who don’t know me, this is a quick glimpse into my head and makes me tick. This is the culmination of time spent looking backward, forward and inward. Over the last few years, I have finally started to dig a little deeper into my own personality strengths and weaknesses. The process has been so interesting. Let me explain.
How I got to this point.
I can devour information on every topic that interests me. I can read articles on entrepreneurship, social media, fitness, productivity, positive thinking, inspirational leaders, travel, VW campers and music all day. Information input is one of my strengths. What I am striving for though, is to be a leader in information OUTPUT.
My friend Andy sent me the book Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath recently. IBM uses this to identify strengths within their teams to help identify the right tasks for the right people. The findings from this test lined up with an email exercise I went through the previous week.
Over a weeks time, I polled my closest friends and family about my strengths and weaknesses. I gave them the freedom upfront to be honest in their replies. I wanted to be thorough with this process. There were more than a couple in depth answers that solidified some of my own thoughts and impressions. Having an external viewpoint is so beneficial when undergoing any type of new thought process or plan.
Before starting this process, I knew how I was going to approach the results. I am most interested in doubling down on my strengths rather than on my weaknesses. The confirmations I received jived with how I was feeling inside. Choosing how to apply that info in a meaningful way is what I was most interested in. Positively Jorge is the product of all these exercises. (This ended up being a nickname clients gave me.)
Why am I so excited?
Let me tell you why. Over the last 5 years, I kept having this nagging feeling that I needed to do more. I get an immense sense of joy helping others. It’s in my DNA. Over the last 20 years, it has been my training business which focuses on helping children with special needs become stronger and more confident.
But what I really kept thinking would affect the most change, was helping parents reach their full potential. If I could do this effectively, whole families would be growing and blossoming together. That is something worth fighting for. This is the way.
Final Thoughts
I look forward to getting to know you and creating a community where we can help each other. If you read this far, I would like to say thanks. For those who didn’t, I would also like to say thanks with a twist of sarcasm.
Let’s do this.
