It’s Almost Time To Break Up With Your New Years Resolution
That’s right! You are almost off the hook. According to research, more than 30% of adults quit their new years resolution on the first week. So if you made it past January 7th, you are above average. Only issue is another 30ish percent quit by months end. More than 80% forgot what their resolutions were by mid-summer. Yikes!
Can We Fix This?
Of course we can “fix” this. Most things can be fixed but maybe that is the wrong approach. Language is important here. You are not broken!
(Yelling for those in the back)
Maybe if we set ourselves up correctly and think about what is meaningful, we might have a chance to persevere. We can make small adjustments along the way instead of feeling like we are broken due to poor planning.
So What Is Next?
Our human brains ability to be vague allows us to feel less pain if we miss our target.
But, if your target is not specific enough, how accurate can you be?
For example, “being healthy is 2024” is nowhere near as specific as “a want to run a 5k in under 30 minutes by April this year”
One you can research, create a plan for, and have a way to test your efforts.
The other could just mean you drink more water. That is great and all but water alone doesn’t maketh you healthy.
Be Specific
What do you want and why?
Create specific targets and stay laser focused. Again, “losing 15 pounds” is not the same motivator as “I am tired of feeling sluggish, I am lacking confidence, and I am scared of aging related diseases that are mostly under my control”
I know that is a lot of words. But somehow, we have been conditioned that science (I am looking at you Pharmaceutical companies) will take care of all our our ailments if we can just continue to exist and hold out.
Sorry, but most of it is designed to band aid your issues and not resolve them.
Insert spooky conspiracy theory tin foil hat here.
We Can Do Better For Ourselves
What are your challenges?
Have you mastered the ability to be vague on your goals for the year? (This was me last year. My band name would have been NO DIRECTION) See below
You can read more about that HERE if you missed last weeks newsletter/blog post.
Love you all, let’s make it all of our years. We are human, and the ride can be bumpy, but we can continue to push towards the top right corner.
We got this!
